Do you have a passion to help low income students reach the college of their dreams? This would be a great opportunity for you. Minds Matter is a non-profit organization that was created to mentor high-achieving, low-income high school students who have the potential and ambition to pursue a college education, but who lacked the resources to achieve that dream. The organization is looking for an additional member for its executive committee in the area of Junior Programming. You will have a seasoned volunteer available to train you in. Details on the role are as follows: Designs, organizes and facilitates the Junior Program mentoring sessions for a dozen of students and their volunteers. Topics can range from college tours, college presentations, passion projects, etc. Collaborates with the Co-Directors of Test Prep and Writing & Critical Thinking (W&CT) to coordinate curriculum. Attends monthly executive committee meetings. Works with Summer Programs Team in application and selection process.

Minds Matter is a 26 year old not-for-profit organization that helps top performing high school students from low-income backgrounds reach their dreams of getting into college. Our Volunteers Our volunteers are young professionals and graduate students who play a critical role in helping these Minds Matter students achieve their goals. Mentors Time Commitment: 3-4hrs/week, September through May. We pair 2 mentors with each student to work for 2 hours most Saturdays during the school year alongside other mentor/mentee pairs on essays, summer program selection, and school selection Mentors are required to be college graduates, attend at least 75% of Saturday sessions, and undergo a background check Who do we serve? Average student GPA is about 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) while the students’ average family income is about $25,000. 90% of students are 1st generation college students. When? Saturday weekly sessions are from 12pm-2pm. They are facilitated by a program director. We also have a lot of fun mentor/mentee outings and volunteer-only get-togethers throughout the year, giving ample opportunity to get to know your mentee as well as other volunteers.

Details on the role are as follows: Designs, organizes and facilitates the Sophomore Program mentoring sessions for a dozen of students and their volunteers. Topics can range from college tours, college presentations, passion projects, etc. Collaborates with the Co-Directors of Test Prep and Writing & Critical Thinking (W&CT) to coordinate curriculum. Attends monthly executive committee meetings. Works with Summer Programs Team in application and selection process.

Are you savvy with social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc)? Are you passionate about helping first-generation high school students achieve their dream of attending a 4 year university? Help Minds Matter with their Social Media and Marketing! We are looking for a volunteer (or team of volunteers) to help run our social media platform. We are a completely volunteer run non-profit that works with high achieving, low income, first generation high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We work on helping our students attend college and set them up for success. We want our social media team to share photos of students hard at work, create posts sharing facts about Minds Matter Twin Cities, and share opportunities to work with Minds Matter.
